I agree. There's something in the water in Houston. The mission statement of RWA exists to support the professional interests of romance authors. However, the president's statement says "...to promote the genre itself." So we promote the genre at the cost of the very authors RWA is supposed to be helping? That runs counter to the Prime Directive.
If a Rita is worth a damn then winning it should lead to larger print runs and wider distribution. Limiting who can enter makes no sense. But that's often the case with RWA.
