I'm letting my membership lapse this go-around. Though I'm going to miss my local chapter like crazy, I need to do what's best for me and my writing career. Since I was published before I found RWA, I don't feel like they're it. Perhaps, I'll find a reason to re-up again in 2010.

IMHO, they're trying to be too many things to too many different people. They need to figure "who THEIR audience is" so the rest of us know where we stand. For now, I get this feeling that they're muddling around and trying to find their footing in the NY publishing world. They're afraid to take a stance on what they truly want because it'll most likely annihilate their bottom line when they lose approx. 8,000 members at $75 a head (not including those who go to Nationals).

In terms of "being in it to win it", I'm not out to win a fight with RWA. I'm out to "win" a sweet publishing contract. RWA can't help me write the book that'll do that. So, I might as well return to my pre-org days and go at it alone. Well...not exactly. I've already joined more open groups to keep my finger on the pulse of the industry. Like PNR for example. ;)
