St. E'sNobody would believe you.  Editors would eviscerate you for even suggesting the idea.  And it's all true.

The Department of Homeland Security has decided on the perfect place for its headquarters: St. Elizabeth's Hospital, the District of Columbia's historic looney bin, originally known as the Government Hospital for the Insane.

Speaking as someone who was in the Pentagon on 9/11 and who has witnessed the crap commited in the name of "national security" since, it just doesn't get more perfect than that.

That's utterly lovely. Who said Americans don't have a sense of irony?

Better yet, what I thought was Greg's usual dose of Passion Week Wagner (he invariably goes all Parsifal on me) finally resolved itself into something recognizable: "Thus Spake Zarathustra". Mwahahahahahaha! I'm laughing so hard, it hurts. Hugs and aching grins, Jean Marie

I love it. I shared it on Facebook, I love it so much. Many thanks for that. The Government Hospital For The Insane. The world is indeed full of wonder where you least expect it.

Oh, did I mention that St. E's is where they incarcerated Ezra Pound in his fascist period? Gods, my sides ache!

Well, I gotta ask: what the hell were you doing in the Pentagon on 9/11?

And more importantly, were you and yours ok?

I worked for the Department of Defense before I started writing full-time. In 2001, I worked for the DoD Office of Family Policy. I wrote about it in a Crescent Blues editorial, "The Dagger in the Pillow" (http://www.crescentblues.com/4_5issue/editorial.shtml). My office and office mates were fine. My boss went on to create the Pentagon Family Assistance Center for the families of the victims. I think it was the first, best step to healing--doing something positive for the folks who really suffered.
On a strictly personal level, the worst part for me was dealing with some very strange relatives and friends who NEEDED me to IMMEDIATELY call and give them all the deets while they freaked about how they were gonna die. This was absolutely the last thing I wanted to deal with when I got home at 11 p.m. September 11 after committing to return to the PFAC at 6 a.m. I laughed off the messages, and would you believe it, the trolls got offended that I wasn't taking their danger (in western New Jersey and southern North Carolina, no less) seriously.
I think I'll stop there. I'm still related to some of them.
Hugs and smiles,
Jean Marie

How appropriate.

The mind boggles at just what your spouse person might be creating his laboratory. No, don't tell me. It'll ruin the effect.
