Once again cluttering up the LJ airways to see if I can get WordPress to pick up on this.  Argh!  This is hard!

LOL

On my bookshelf I have a newly-acquired copy of Wordpress for Dummies, because Nina really ought to do more with her blog, and doesn't.

I've got it too, and it's totally useless. The writer addresses procedures for an out-of-date version of WordPress. 2.7.1 is pretty good. I crashed a couple times, but always from trying to follow out-of-date instructions in the book or in the WordPress Codex. As long as I keep to the Dashboard and the theme, I'm good.
Plug-ins are really easy with this version too. Everything except cross-posting. :-P Obviously, I'm going to be cutting and pasting for a while, just like I do with MySpace.
Good luck to Nina! ;-)
Hugs and grins,
Jean Marie

Oh noes! Is the book worthless even from a conceptual standpoint? (In other words, should I send it back...)

Mileage may vary. All I can speak to is my experience. I got as much out of the Codex and Wikipedia, and I still wound up needing my web host to upload the necessary WordPress files. Following the book's directions screwed me up completely. After that, I tried reading it every time I got stuck--and usually got stuck worse. Finally I gave up and just played with the Dashboard and read every single message on the theme forum. It was a lot safer.
I'll be happy to send you my copy. I won't be using it, and you can send your new one back. Would that work for you?
Big hugs,
Jean Marie

The edition I have was published in 2009, and addresses version 2.7. Yours?

Also, am sending you an email...

2008. It's supposed to go up to 2.6, but Greg says it was out-of-date even for 2.6, because that's what he originally used for IV Caffeine. :-P

Jean Marie
